Resume & cover letter workshop a great success!

Columbia College of Missouri-Hancock Field

On March 11, the Hancock Field campus held an informative student workshop designed to assist students and military personnel create and edit their resumes and cover letters. Now more than ever, the need to have a well-written version of both is crucial. A panel of four presenters lectured over 40 eager attendees. Each of the presenters had a different background of professional experience:

Todd Panek – Todd is a United States Air Force veteran and a Columbia College alumnus. He completed both his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting in 2007, and his Master of Business Administration in 2010 from Columbia College.

His professional background includes roles in law enforcement, risk control, logistics and insurance. Todd works in insurance today. He currently is the director of Claim Practices for Short Term Disability at The Hartford, a leader in the group benefits industry.

James H. Reynolds – Jim currently is the senior vice president for Operations for Empower Federal Credit Union , which has assets of $1.1 billion. He is responsible for 195 employees, representing business development, communications, office operations and branch perations for 20 branches. He works closely with the CEO/president and the board of directors on achieving business and strategic planning initiatives. He has 16 years of service with the credit union.

Eileen L. Brophy – Eileen, president of Brophy Services, Inc., oversees company operations, finances, sales, staffing and marketing. Eileen is a lifelong resident of the Syracuse area. She has an associate degree in business administration from Central City Business Institute, and an associate degree in general studies from Columbia College.

Eileen is a member of the Women Presidents' Organization (WPO), Centerstate CEO (Executive Dialog), New York State Family Business Center and WomenTies. These organizations help support and advance women entrepreneurs. In April 2011, Eileen received the Ann Michel Distinguished Entrepreneur Award from the Falcone Center for Entrepreneurship and WISE (Women Igniting the Spirit of Entrepreneurship). She also was chosen by Syracuse University Whitman School of Management to participate in its corporate entrepreneurship program.

In 2010, Eileen became the only building service contractor within a 500-mile radius to privately label all Eco-Logo certified cleaning products. In 2009, Eileen and Brophy Services became a certified Women Business Enterprise, making Brophy Services the largest local female-owned and operated cleaning service in central New York. In 2007-2008, she participated in a mentor-protégé program through WISE in her efforts to continue advancing her education and company.

Jim Robinson – Jim is a procurement officer at SUNY Upstate Medical University where he has worked since 2002. He previously was branch manager for Northrup Supply Corporation, a heating, AC and plumbing wholesale distributor, and owner of Salina Express Service, a niche same-day and emergency delivery service.

Jim has been a business instructor at Columbia College since 2008. He is well known as an instructor of business communications, principles of management, human resources management, oganizational behavior, business ethics and strategic management.
