Columbia College named one of fastest-growing colleges in the nation
Gurnee, IL., Oct. 26, 2012 — Columbia College earned the No. 17 spot as one of the fastest-growing private nonprofit master’s institutions in the nation by The Chronicle of Higher Education.
Columbia College experienced a 113.4 percent increase from 2000-2010. In the fall of 2000 7,948 students were enrolled at Columbia College and by fall 2010 the student enrollment increased to 16,962.
“We are excited to be included in the top 20 of the fastest-growing private institutions,” said Dr. Gerald Brouder, president of Columbia College. “We realize the importance of offering diverse academic programs to accommodate students from all backgrounds. As we continue to generate more opportunities we, in turn, attract more students who are eager to participate in the many programs that Columbia College offers. This recognition only validates our mission to be a model institution.”
Columbia College has more than 30 campuses in 13 states, including Missouri, Alabama, California, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, New York, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, Utah and Washington.
Columbia College of Missouri features four campuses in the state of Illinois, located in Lake County (Gurnee), Crystal Lake, Elgin and Freeport, and offers a variety of in-seat and online degrees. In 1974, the college entered into an agreement to provide post-secondary education opportunities for sailors at Naval Station Great Lakes. Today, over 38 years later, the Columbia College of Missouri campuses in Illinois serve more than 2,250 students annually. There are more than 4,700 Columbia College alumni in the state of Illinois, the third largest college alumni population in the nation.
