Columbia College - Lake of the Ozarks awards Westling Scholarship to local student

Osage Beach, Mo., May 31, 2012 — Columbia College–Lake of the Ozarks sophomore Aaron Jolly (Camdenton, Mo.) was recently awarded a $500 scholarship from Columbia College in honor of Frank S. Westling. Westling was a highly decorated infantry officer and former dean of the college’s Extended Studies Division, now Adult Higher Education.

To qualify for the Westling award, the recipients had to:

 Be an Online, Evening or Nationwide campus student pursuing a degree with Columbia College.
 Have attended Columbia College during the 2011-12 academic year (scholarship will be for the 2012-13 academic year).
 Have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
 Have at least 15 credit hours with Columbia College.
 Provide evidence of leadership and service to their community, school or country.
 Write a 400-500 word essay about their achievements and career goals.

For the 2012-13 academic year, Columbia College awarded Westling scholarships to 39 students from 23 campus locations. The scholarship is non-renewable and awarded to new students each year.

The Lake Ozark campus was established in 1990 and recently celebrated its 21st anniversary. In 2004, a new 17,400-square-foot building was constructed, completed in spring 2005. The first classes held in the new facility began in June 2005. Columbia College-Lake of the Ozarks offers eight associate and 11 bachelor’s degrees in-seat as well as 23 associate, bachelor’s and master’s degrees online.
