Columbia College-Rolla awards scholarships
Congratulations to our three scholarship recipients for the spring of 2012:Tom Donnell and Sarah Price were awarded the Rolla Faculty Memorial Scholarship, and Saheed Akintunde received the Frieda Hawks Academic Excellence Scholarship. Each of the scholarships was for $500. Both scholarships will be awarded again in the fall of 2012.
In April, a new scholarship fund was established for the Rolla campus in honor of Walter and Irene Stratman, parents of current Rolla director, Dr. Greg Stratman. The award honors the memory of the Stratmans, who, though never given the opportunity to pursue higher education themselves, recognized the value of a college education and strongly supported such opportunities for their four sons. Dr. Greg Stratman was the first in his extended family, which includes 47 first cousins, to earn a graduate degree. This award will be given to newly enrolled students with preference given to individuals who have completed the Young Parents Program or other programs for at-risk adults at the Rolla Community Partnership with recommendations.
