Columbia College is excited to offer the Col. Charles E. McGee Scholarship. Col. Charles McGee '78, U.S. Air Force (retired) was a Tuskegee Airman who served in World War II, the Korean and Vietnam wars and was awarded the Congressional Gold Medal of Honor, the nation's highest civilian award. He was inducted into the National Aviation Hall of Fame in Dayton, Ohio, in 2011. Recently, he served as a technical consultant for the World War II movie, "Red Tails," which opened nationwide Jan. 20. "Red Tails," a George Lucas film starring Terrence Howard and Cuba Gooding Jr., focuses on the exploits of the Tuskegee Airmen, the first African American fighter pilots in U.S. history, charged with escorting American bombers across the hostile skies of German-occupied Europe.
All new and returning degree-seeking student veterans or their dependents are eligible for the $1,000 scholarship. The deadline to apply is March 3.
To apply, fill out an application and send it in with a copy of your DD214 (Department of Defense form 214), two recommendation forms and a personal essay, limited to 500 words: Describe how education is making, or has made, a difference in your life.
