Columbia College–St. Louis student works with farmer’s market to promote access to fresh food

Senior Allona Morris arrived at class with fruits and vegetables from her farmer’s market to share with others.
Since 2009, senior Allona Morris has focused on her goal of breaking down the barrier that limits access to fresh vegetables and fruit for the elderly and disadvantaged by overseeing, promoting and growing the STL Vendors Farmer’s and Merchant’s Market. Morris stumbled onto this project after the person scheduled to run the farmer’s market pulled out two days before the opening. Morris stepped in to cover the void and has dedicated herself to the cause as she had a firsthand glimpse of the barrier to fresh foods some people experience. Her farmer’s market services a senior center and a hospital. The market is now open!

And she is doing a fantastic job! Ms. Allona services the building that I manage, Euclid Plaza, and even I end up shopping for my family and my mom.
