Columbia College–Rolla inducts members into honorary societies

On Saturday, May 7,  10 students and one faculty member from Columbia College–Rolla were accepted into local chapters of two honorary societies.
Sigma Beta Delta is an honorary society for students majoring in business, who have excelled in their studies. The purpose of Sigma Beta Delta is to encourage and recognize scholarship and achievement among students of business, management and administration to encourage and promote personal and professional improvement in life distinguished by honorable service to humankind. Anna Duncan (shown with Dr. Stratman) was inducted.

Alpha Sigma Lambda is an honorary society for continuing education and lifelong learning, recognizing special achievements of adults who accomplish academic excellence while facing competing interests of home and work. Alpha Sigma Lambda is dedicated to the advancement of scholarship and recognizes high scholastic achievement in an adult student's career. By so doing, this society encourages many students to earn associate and baccalaureate degrees. Inductees included Korin Ell, Megan Griggs, Vanessa Haneline, Linda Hayes, Erin Henderson, Sarah Price, Brett Snodgrass, DeAnna St. Pierre and Haydee Valdez-Allen. Edward “Buz” Harvey, instructor in business management, marketing, and finance, was also inducted as an honorary member. He is shown with St. Pierre, Snodgrass and Valdez-Allen.
City administrator John Butz

The speaker for the event was John Butz, city administrator for the city of Rolla, who gave a personal and encouraging talk about the role that continuing education has played both in his life and in the lives of several of his siblings.

The ceremony was organized by ASL officers Karla Pyatt (president), Lori Allen (vice president) and Sharla Gregory (treasurer), who also prepared a delicious cake.
