Columbia College–Lake County promotes a season of giving for families in need

Each year Columbia CollegeLake County gives students, faculty and staff the opportunity to help families in need through the Adopt-A-Family program. The generosity of our campus community this year helped ensure a merry Christmas for 10 families currently residing in the Waukegan Township Staben House.

According to Miklovic, “For the last seven years the employees of the city of Lake Forest and members of my family have worked together to raise money to help families in need. It’s been our pleasure to assist families that are less fortunate, and make sure they have the best holiday season possible. We hope to work with Columbia College and the Staben House again in 2011 to bring holiday cheer to families in our local communities.”

Also deserving of special recognition is staff member, Tabitha Scott, who organized this year’s donations. This was no easy task, and her efforts enabled us to assist more families than ever before.

The following people also made generous donations this year: Renea Amen, Heidi Baumgart, Peg Berry, Ashley Blosomer, Nancy Bock, Charlene Cardinal, Lynn Christensen, Andrea Delgado, Maloree Edwards, Terrance Fitzpatrick, Darlene Gano, Nancy Gonzalez, Victoria Hanratty, Roland Higbee, Amy Johnson, Tasha Johnson, Matt Lathrop, Jerry Lewis, Terrance McClure, Shawonna McEntire, Keith Nelson, Wayne Pratt, Princess Pulido, Sheila Richardson, Lizbeth Rivas, Bianca Rodriguez, Jeanne Salazaar, Tabitha Scott, Nina Sears, Bettina Teitz, and Nikki Tyson. Thank you to everyone who contributed. Your participation made this program a success!

The Staben House is a transitional facility for homeless women and children that uses donated items to provide goods and services to families to help them become independent and self-sufficient. If you are interested in donating items to the Staben House, please contact them at (847) 244-9944. You can also learn more about the Staben House and the Staben Center, a transitional facility for homeless men, online at http://www.waukegantownship.com.

In particular, we would like to recognize Terrence Fitzpatrick, Victoria Hanratty, Donna Miklovic and faculty member Wayne Pratt. These four each “adopted’ an entire family, providing them with all the gifts on their wish list. Miklovic, along with her family and coworkers at the city of Lake Forest, also went above and beyond, providing gifts for seven different families.
