Columbia College—Salt Lake celebrates 35 years

Columbia College—Salt Lake has been educating students since 1975 and celebrated its 35th anniversary with a celebration Oct. 20. The campus is located at 5250 S. Commerce Drive, Suite 300, in Murray, Utah. Director Jewly Harris provided remarks.

"The Salt Lake Campus has been exemplary at delivering the education working adults, military personnel and traditional-age students of their community require," said Dr. Gerald Brouder, Columbia College president. "I am very proud of the campus’s longevity and accomplishments and look forward to another 35 years of educational excellence."

Established in 1975 at Fort Douglas Army Education Center, Columbia College-Salt Lake originally served the education needs of military personnel at Fort Douglas and Army National Guard units in the area. The campus moved to downtown Salt Lake City in 1989 with the closing of the base, and the campus moved again in 2008 to its present location near Interstate 15 in Murray, Utah.

“This new facility offers more than convenience and a better location,” said Harris. "We've added some major upgrades, especially in the area of technology. Our computer labs offer state-of-the-art equipment, and the campus is now situated in an aesthetically appealing environment, providing students with surroundings that are conducive to learning."

The campus offers associate and bachelor’s degrees in business administration and criminal justice, among many others. The college also offers more than 800 online classes and 20 online degrees, including three master's degrees in business, teaching and criminal justice.
