Take Advantage of CLEP and DANTES

Does it seem like you have a lot of classes left to take? One way to shorten your path to your degree is to take a CLEP or a DANTES exam.


You test for a class and receive credit for that class. For example, if you need a history or social science elective, by taking the CLEP Social Science/History exam, you will receive elective credit for HIST and SOCI, provided you pass the test. Some people are overwhelmed at having to take 2 history classes, so they take a CLEP exam and test out of one of the history required classes.

CLEP exams are taken on the computer. The actual test time is 90 minutes. The cost is $65 for the actual test and there is an administration fee of $25. You may schedule a CLEP test two days prior to your desired test date. All you need to do is to call into the office and set a date and time. CLEP exams are given Monday thru Thursday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and Fridays from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. These time frames leave approximately 2 hours to get you signed in and registered on the computer, and then you have the 90 minutes for the test. When the test is completed, you will receive a copy of your score; so you know if you have passed before you leave if you have passed.

DANTES is a little different. A DANTES test must be ordered at least 2 weeks prior to your desired test date. The administration fee is payable at the time you order your test. That fee is $25. When your test arrives at the campus, we will call you to let you know it is here and schedule the date and time you wish to take the exam. DANTES is an untimed test but most students finish within 90 minutes. The day of your DANTES test, you will pay $70.00 to DANTES in the form of cashier’s check, money order or credit card. DANTES does not accept personal checks. Again, you receive credit for the class provided you pass the exam. It could take up to four weeks for us to receive your results, so plan accordingly.
