Lake County campus establishes course to ensure student success

The Lake County campus established a course, Student Success Strategies, to help ensure the future success of its students. The class was meant to be an orientation course for new students until Suzette Baeckelandt, Lake County admissions manager, decided to make the class useful for current students and new enrollees.

“Since our student body is composed of very busy adult learners, I wanted to make a class that would ensure good use of our students’ time — a class that could provide them an education for their education."

With helpful tips from faculty member Wayne Pratt, Baeckelandt founded Student Success Strategies — a one-day course, held five times a year the week before the start of each session.

 Course topics include:
  • Time management
  • Learning to learn
  • College-level thinking
  • College-level test taking
  • How to have a successful college experience
The next Student Success Strategies class will be held Jan. 7, 2009, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Lake County Campus.
